My ASP multidisciplinary project was about “The Space Hotel Design” and my PhD on innovative lightweight shelter for past disaster occasions. These research pushed me to apply what I’ve learn in the architecture market.
In 2012, together with one PhD colleague, I founded Maco Technology srl, an engineering company specialized on lightweight constructions based on non-standard materials. Coated textiles, films, ETFE and fibre reinforced composites are the main construction materials of our works. We design, engineer, produce and install smalla and medium-size tensile structures and lightweight skins for building facades. Our latest main works were the covering of an 100m dry dock in Genova based on a telescopic steel structures covered by a membrane and the Corriere della Sera pavilion for “Milano Expo 2015” where roof and faced were inflated transparent cushions. In January 2015, together with 4 other partners, I founded Tensairity Solution, a start up in the field of temporary construction based on the patented technology Tensairity we own exclusively. This system aims to substitute standard aluminium or steel truss beams especially in case of large spans and/or when time of set up or transportation volume are an issue. Our market is now the world events and sports: Ducati, Audi, Honda and ISAF (International Sailing Federation) selected our technology for their hospitality (a moveable building which follows the team all around the world). The challenge is now to transform these unique designs into standard products and technology able to match the market expectations.
